Skadi Design Overhaul (Rough)

So, after a whole month of barely being able to draw anything, I finally managed to sketch something out - Skadi's redesign.

Design Notes
(If any of you play Skyrim, it's probably pretty obvious where I got my inspiration from >_> I've kind of been playing a lot of it.)

I have been contemplating this design overhaul for a long time now, and I got to this stage after trying to think of what a genderbent version of Skadi would wear, plus mulling over exactly how impractical her old design was.

That leather underbust corset is definitely not great protection. Who is going to attack the stomach when the heart is open to attack? And those sleeves and that belt flying around everywhere, slapping her when she's trying to aim? I don't think those were great ideas either.

So, she has now got a more complete set of armour. It's still leather, but she wears a cuirass, pauldrons, gauntlets, tasset and armour up to the knee - rather than just boots, an underbust corset and a flimsy coat. The blue coat is going to be replaced by animal hide in more neutral colours. I'm really going to play up the 'Bowhunting' aspect of the goddess she is based upon - as you can see, she now also has a knife (which has a metal blade, unlike her bow which is still made out of ice.)

I am not completely sure about the boots yet. We'll see what happens.

Update (22/04/14): Hood up, rough lines and colour has been added. What do you think? I haven't added the fur textures yet, but that's what the front of the hood and the lighter grey-brown areas are supposed to be made out of. I'm still thinking of what knotwork carvings there should be in the leather, and where they should be. Definitely on the bracers, perhaps on her tasset. Oh, and what was her brooch is now part of the clip on her tasset. I thought it looked better in the end.

Update (01/06/14): Hood is now furry Also added a background colour so colours of the outfit are more noticeable. I will do a complete reference sheet eventually, but this should work for now.

I'm very please with how this has turned out. I was sure I was going to suck completely after not being able to get out of my art block for all of March

I'm not exactly happy with the face. My face drawing style won't budge no matter how much I try to experiment with other techniques, and I find the style I have quite lifeless (I mean, it suits Skadi, but it doesn't for my outgoing and energetic characters). Hopefully I can sort that out through the year and get something more dynamic going on.

If you have any critiques/suggestions, I will gladly hear them out (in fact, I encourage them )
